I just saw my results from the June SAT and saw the cumulative score was what I expected. Anyways, I was wondering if this is a good/decent score. The subscores are 710 CR, 660 W, 640 M.

Yes. That is a very good score for a large selection of colleges and universities.

Yep, that’s a great score! Much better than mine!

no it sucks

I really depends what level of school you’re aiming for.

I’m not entirely sure, but your score is around the 92nd percentile nationally.

You beat 11 out of 12 other test takers.

If you’re aiming for a standard state school or almost any other college, they will love that score and you should be very proud of it as well.

Ivies and colleges at that level may expect a bit higher score to be competitive.

Remember, the kids on CC are not representative of the general public. You scored better then give or take, 90% of the test taking population. For the majority of schools, that’s a great score. You’re fine for most states (excluding UNC Chapel Hill, Berkley, and a few top public ivies) and most privates. You’d be a tad low and should be more like 2250 for the ivies and equivalents. Techs (MIT, Caltech, and Harvey Mudd) will expect ridiculous 2300+ level scores. The math is a tiny bit low, but honestly that’s a good score. Congrats

Please chance if you have the time:

It’s a pretty great score if you’re aiming for UCs! If you’re looking at the more competitive schools though, it’s not very impressive.

What are you aiming for?

I dont want to steal this thread, but i have the same SAT score and I really need advice. I want to retake the SAT in october for a 2200 score. Ive been practicing, but it feels like Im getting nowhere. Im spending 7+ hrs this summer prepping everyday. Is it possible to reach my goal? Any advice? (Im asian) I need a full scholarship to UMD

Yes, it’s good, but as the others said it really depends on what college you’re looking for.

@Lforlawleit: you’re asian, so your mom must know a few prep courses right?
are you taking those or self-prepping? And what is your score breakdown?

I already took prep classes but they didnt help. Im self prepping for 8 hours a day now. My score break down: math-630, reading-660, writing-710 (10 essay)

lforlawleit, I don’t think 2200 (understand I don’t know the rest of your academic credentials) will get you a full ride to U of MD.

those scores are good enough for most average schools, but if you are aiming for top 25 schools, you need at least a 2250+ to even be considered as a decent applicant. Otherwise, admissions will look at your score, laugh, and toss the application in the “no” pile. Sorry, but i’m being honest. Oh, that is, unless you are applying for art or some obscure major.

hey guys my score is in the same range 1980 and I really want to transfer to an ivy later on do u guys think I should retake SAT or should I just concentrate on college work

CaptainFrost, I was in your exact position. On my first crack at the SAT, I scored a 2010 also after a fair amount of tutoring. I was a little disappointed because I knew I could do better. The second time I took it, I hadn’t done any extra preparation because regular school stuff took up most of my time around June. I was pleasantly surprised when my results came and I found out I had shot up to a 2250. Use this info as inspiration and proof that another try can make a huge difference. It’s all up to chance and the test that day–if you can motivate yourself to give the test another shot, you will reap the benefits of a more competitive score.

OP check your college list. Many still just look at CR + M. If you take again, focus on bringing up math score which will help at schools that superscore.

As others have said, it depends on your target schools. Check their stats to see where yours fall. You want to be in the top 25% if you can.

@idkwhat2write: I disagree that top 25 schools won’t even consider an applicant unless they have a 2250+ SAT score. That’s just not true. It is true to say a score of 2250+ very much increases your chances of success, but these schools reject plenty of candidates with scores above 2250+ and accept many candidates with scores below 2250. They do look at the totality of your application - not just your SAT score - before making a decision.

^ Agree.
Obviously the cut off is not at 2250 as it is still above the 25% of admission for most Ivies. Nevertheless, most if not all students getting in with lower SAT score would have something else in their credential. Sometimes we got fooled by the statistics. Don’t forget that many students submit ACT scores along with SAT scores. Those at the 25% in SAT may have 75% in ACT. So one should always aim higher for a better chance.

OP your score is pretty good, but not good enough for the tippy top schools. I actually got the same score as you, only different subscores. Hopefully we can improve a bit over the summer in time for the fall SAT. :)
