Is a 2170 a decent score? Should I retake?

Basically what the title says.

bump…
bump…
bump…

dependents on what colleges you are applying to

but if you think you can get 100+ points higher , it’s always an advantage to have a higher score

Basing a 2170 on the percentiles of this country it’s an awesome score. If you’re looking to apply to very competitive schools, it’s so-so. If you feel confident enough, study a bit more and try for 2200+.

If u are applying to the Ivies and other top 20 schools, consider a retake, but u don’t have to if u don’t want to. For other schools, there’s no real need for a retake - just remember that u scored higher than the vast majority of American high school students.

2170 is a great score :D

Another participant in another thread just told me about a College Board page that led me to a data table on the results of retakes.

As a matter of college policies, it wouldn’t hurt you to retake.

As to whether or not it’s worthwhile for you to retake, it probably would be at that score level for the several most selective colleges. At other colleges, you’ve already done what you need to do. Think about what else you could do with your time to build a strong application, and how likely it is your score will rise on the retake, and plan accordingly.

Good luck in your applications.

2170 is the 98 national percentile.

carpe, how do know it is the 98th percentile? my sat score report shows the percentile for each section but not for the overall score itself. if you think about it, there are many combinations of scores that equal 2170. 800 (99th), 800(99th) , 370 (about 40th percentile?) is a 2170.

also 730 ,700,740 is a 2170 but these scores are all in the 92+ percentile.

so will both scores be in the same national percentile?

This is '06 college bound seniors. I think '07 comes out in the fall.
