Is a 2190 competitive?

I signed up for the March SAT to retake, so what I should I aim for now? These scores are from my first run in January: 680 CR, 760 M, 750 W.

A 2190 is definitely a competitive score. There’s always room to improve, though!

CR + Maths - 1500+

You’re CR/M is a 1440, which I believe it’s around the 50th percentile. It doesn’t make you a strong applicant but certainly gives you a chance. You should aim for 1500+ (75th percentile)

Yes, it’s competitive, though not the CR is not spectacular.

As to what should you aim for – I’m not sure I understand the question. How would you prepare differently if we said aim for a 2250 than if we said aim for a 2300?

Just prepare, and do the best you can.

Just get your CR up to 700, and you will be more than fine.

And that is probably just one or two more correct answers on the test.

My son raised his CR score by 70 points the second time he took the exam.

So mere familiarity with the exam will help you.

I definitely fell victim to small mistakes on CR; I remember a few distinctly and they won’t happen again.

also @zephyr15, I guess what I meant was that if people recommended a score of, say, 2250, and I got that 2250, I’d consider not retaking the test. My ideal score would be 2300 but I’m not sure if a 110 point jump is realistic.

Well, it is quite competitive. Just get the CR to above 700, and you are pretty strong.

i improved my SAT’s 150 points so it is definitely possible. just believe in yourself!

If you’re aiming for Cornell, I would say that your current scores are not considered as “competitive” since the university only considers SAT scores at the 1600-scale (Math/CR).
You definitely have room to improve tough, so I would recommend retaking the test in March.
After all, you’re more familiar with the test format so it’d be somewhat easier.
On my second attempt on the SAT, I improved my math score from a 620 to a 800 and reading score from a 600 to 730.
I’m sure you’ll do fine too. Good luck, anyways.
