I got a 24… How does that look at top level schools like Columbia, Yale, Princeton, etc.?
Although most people claim writing scores dont really mean anything, a 24 certainly is not a good score for top tier schools like those mentioned.
What is your composite score?
@PaulDi A 31. It was my first time taking the test and I had no prep. I took it again a few days ago and feel like I did much better than I did my first time.
To have a really competitive chance at those schools you should be shooting for a 34+. I know the average is 32 but yea 34+ is great. did you take the writing with your new test? A 31 correlates to a 2120 on the SAT. It’s great that you think you did a lot better. (don’t get me wrong 31 is great, but not what those schools are looking for) If you took subject tests than you could just not send the writing.
@PaulDi Lol, I’m a Questbridge Finalist. I literally have nothing to lose, and if i get denied then I will just reapply. I am at the top of my IB class and am captain of several clubs. I have been involved in 2 sports and about 20 ECs during my HS career. I have my own business and my refugee status has pushed me to create my own nonprofit organization. Is that not what colleges are looking for? I have talked to several Columbia students who got in with a 32, and some even with a 27-29.
It was my first time taking the test with no prep. I am certain I scored higher on this test. Last time I did not finish the math section or the science section. This time I finished with time to spare.
@Yomo710 Congrats! I said it’s great that you feel you did better! It is a fact that a higher score will increase your chances of getting into the school, i mean that’s not a secret, those lucky kids that got in with low scores don’t mean much to me. 20 ECs! That’s crazy! You seem to have a really interesting background too!
Don’t be offended by what i say, i just try to be honest with everyone (usually to my downfall)
I was strictly talking ACT, i had no idea about your background -_- yea?
I had to write 18 applications when i was in HS and i still help kids with their applications now.
P.S: Many schools don’t consider writing
@PaulDi Oh, okay! I thought you were a kid applying to similar schools. There seems to be a trend discouraging other students from applying to top schools… It’s pathetic.
I am glad that the schools that I am applying to consider the October score, as I know I did much better. I was getting a feel for the test the first time. And yah, at least 20. I can count 9 alone this year, and I haven’t even started NHS or other honor societies. I love to be involved.
