9th grade yr I had a 2.8 but when I apply to college I’ll have a 3.6-3.7. Would they throw out my app once they see it’s a 3.6-3.7?

Outstanding upward trend ( after 9th grade gpa went up more than 1 whole point).
With normal EC’s, Essays and solid recs…is this gpa too low?

With normal EC’s, Essays and solid recs, yes I think that gpa is quite low, but not that lowest. You’re hooks are not that solid. And when you say “American American”, what do you mean? There is a lot of Black/White/Latino People who have an American citizenship and where born in the US. Your chances are extremely slim, I can’t give a full analysis w/out ALL your info.

In my opinion, it is not too low. I’ve seen many applicants get accepted with GPA’S around 3.6-3.7 and even some below. Also, Stanford’s website states that they don’t consider freshman grades as heavily as sophomore and Junior year, but I’m sure they still look at them. Plus, from what you’ve posted you seem to have a couple of hooks too, so that will be beneficial. But from what I’ve learned in the past year, it’s really the essays and achievement outside of the classroom that counts.

I think (s)he made a mistake and meant African American… If I’m right then I’d say don’t worry about it too much.

Well if that is correct than the changes things a tad. Anyway what I’ve noticed matters most is Passion, which is best expressed through teacher recs and essays.

*African American (black)
when I say normal, I mean CC standards, I didn’t sleep all day but I didn’t publish a book.
9th: 2.8
10-12 3.9+

Your upward trend is definitely commendable.

If you play football you’re looking good

Not too low.

I don’t think you’ll have a problem because they throw away freshman grades :)

Where is it said that Stanford "throws out "freshman grades?

A rep that I talked to said they don’t consider freshmen grades

^same. Mine said that they don’t even look at them. As for your chances, you really don’t have any hook or anything that stands out. Your application looks just average based on the info you put on here which would most likely put you in that 93% category… However, it would never hurt to apply.

Not too low–apply! Schools like Stanford and the Ivies will give you the best financial aid out there, which in your case would be a full scholarship or very near to that. So just work hard on the essays.
