^^ I got 3Bs in 3 classes of my freshman year and all As afterwards.
No.
What makes you think it would be too low?
Cornell 75th percentile SAT is 1540.
But remember that their acceptance rate is only 11%. Plenty of 1540+ didn’t get admitted.
Def not too low. Is it a guarantee for admission? Definetly not, but neither is a 4.0 and a 1600. Just create the best representation of yourself with your app and hope for the best. Good luck!
It takes more than stats to get into Cornell. I personally believe no one should apply to a top college until they get a much better idea of what else can tip a kid in or leave him.on the sidelines.
Your stats are well in the ballpark. It is going to come down to how well you match yourself and the “everything else” on your application. Good luck to you.
Disclaimer: I’m an incoming First-Year at Brown who was rejected from Cornell RD but know two students who go there (one admitted ED this year and another admitted under the transfer option program.)
According to Cornell Admissions’ Class of 2023 Profile (https://admissions.cornell.edu/pdf/entering-class-profile ,) your test scores definitely falls within Cornell’s score ranges, however, most colleges like Cornell look to your academics (GPA, test scores, courses etc.) as a method of assessing your ability to cope with coursework at their school; once admissions is confident of this, they look to the rest of your application (essays; interview if offered one by a “Cornell Ambassador;” and letters of recommendation. It’s up to the rest of your application to demonstrate to Admissions how you’ll utilize the resources at Cornell (definitely through your essays, but also by how you’ve used your high school’s resources,) and will go on from Cornell to become a Doctor, Lawyer, Researcher etc. that will make Cornell proud to call you their graduate in the future.
I strongly recommend you apply to Cornell ED, however, ONLY if the following are true:
- You LOVE Cornell and would 110% attend if admitted.
- You are confident that you can present a well thought out and crafted application by the ED Deadline, which is November 1st.
- You and your family can afford Cornell if you were admitted (run the financial aid calculators if applicable.)
Hope this helps! Good luck with admissions!
You look to be a competitive applicant academically. The rest will depend on things we can’t see such as your essays, LORs, depth of your ECs etc. If Cornell is your top choice apply and give it your all.
That said, any elite college should be considered a reach for any unhooked applicant. Be sure to take the time to search out a group of match and safety schools that appear affordable (run net price calculators) and that you would be excited to attend.
I completely agree with @happy1
Your safeties should have a 50%+ admissions rate, with at least one guaranteed acceptance (80-90%+ admissions rate or automatic admit program if you’re in TX, CA etc.) that releases decisions on a rolling admissions bases. Matches are any school that is 30% to 50% acceptance rate and matches your stats, if it’s below that percentage, it’s a reach, even if the school might not be listed in the T20 or T30 (CWRU, Tulane, Northeastern etc. that really focus on demonstrated interest or yield protect.)
