Is a College Degree Worth Anything If You Have Less Than a 3.0 GPA?

<p>Do you think a college degree is worth anything if you have less than a 3.0 GPA? Most people that I talk to say that a college degree is a great accomplishment (no matter what GPA you get). I am just curious as to what everyone thinks.</p>

<p>If you graduate with a 2.0 in an easy major I wouldn’t call that a great accomplishment. An average GPA is around a 2.8. Considering the average college graduate is better off than the average non-graduate I would say it is worth it.</p>

<p>What is it with this thread? Yes, it’s still worth something. How much depends on the degree and what other skills you have. I don’t know about with English and History degrees (but then I don’t know much about those degrees period) but with an engineering degree you can still get a good job with a 3.0. Will you have to make up for the GPA (which isn’t actually bad, and might be good depending on your school) with very good communication skills? Yes. But it is still worth a lot.</p>

<p>ESPECIALLY if you have other achievements on TOP of the GPA.</p>

<p>It may not get you into the top grad school, but it is often good enough to get into SOME Master’s Program if you’re motivated enough (although you might have to pay in this case…), and through that, you can more than make up for a subpar GPA.</p>

<p>i think so. but even if your gpa is less than a 3.0, are you going to drop out and immediately get a job? a college degree is definitely better than none down the road if you don’t have much other skills. but if you do have other skills, which is great, then the gpa shouldn’t matter too much. unless you want to go to grad school, then you might need to explain it a bit, or wait a while before going.</p>

<p>Where you graduate from is more important than your GPA. You drop your GPA off your resume after you get work experience (some people still list if they were Suma/magna) but the name of your school and your major stays.</p>

<p>If it was all about GPA, people who get into Harvard would opt to go to some 4-yr commuter school.</p>

<p>If your trying for law school, then it’s different.</p>
