Is a lackluster semester fatal?

This semester could’ve been worse but could’ve been much better. I’m afraid my GPA is going down from 4.0 to 3.7 (according to the Collegeboard scale) but that’s not my primary concern. My ECs are -for lack of a better word-boring.

I was in Model UN, but I had to drop it due to time conflicts. I founded a club a drama club with my friend (co-president!) but it barely got started before it had to be shut down because we lost our adviser and couldn’t get a new one. I only added acting classes this year, so I only really have that and piano lessons (9 years and going).

I’m rejoining Model UN in the fall (fixing my schedule) and joining ARISTA/NHS. I also plan on jump starting my drama club come Hell or high water. I’ll probably take more music and acting lessons as well.

I’m just afraid by starting new things in the fall may make me look like I’m padding my application, when I genuinely want to be in these clubs/activities; especially because I’m not sure I could advance to higher positions/leadership roles in such a short time.

I guess what I’m really asking is: can this semester really hinder my chances? I still have junior year, and I’m taking as many advanced classes as I can enjoy and handle. I’m particularly interested in UCLA, USC, Chapman University, Boston University, Northwestern University, Columbia University, Carnegie Mellon University, etc.

And for fun, throw in HYPSM. I mean, I don’t really want Ivy League because of the career I want to have in music and acting (I would rather be in a great school for arts AND academics or near a city I could make connections in) but why not?
