I am entering college soon, and I need a laptop of course. I really like the Macbook mainly because it looks nice, light wieght, organized, clean, safe, easy to use(?)…all I am going to use is internet, microsoft word, powerpoint, you know the basics. Is a macbook really worth it for that if I really like it? If no, is there anything nice you can suggest?

if you get a white one, it’s worth it, though you’ll have to find someone with MSOffice for Macs or spend some extra money…or use open-source software, if you’re fine with that.

If you’re not going to use or need any Mac-Specific programs, why buy a Mac?

Why do you have to use Mac-specific software for the Mac to be an option?

Let’s flip this around.

If you’re not going to use any Windows-specific software, why not get a Mac instead?

The software compatibility issues are largely moot in the Intel-Mac era.

Because macs are overprices, medium performance, and i hate the os.

Actually, if you compare the Macbook to similar builds, it’s not really all that much more. Plenty of comparisons have been done and the Macbooks always come out being at least reasonably priced.

Medium performance? They’re running the same hardware as PCs. What’s so “medium” about it?

Hating the OS is reasonable.

To the OP, YES macs are incredibly easy to use. I get the impression that “user-friendly” was a big priority for the Apple developers.

Not sure if this is true, but I also have the impression that the older generation that considers themselves very comp un-savvy have had loads of success learning a Mac than they would a PC.
