Is a staff position at the student newspaper a really good EC?

Or just average? These people work like 30 hrs/week on some relatively tought stuff. How is position seem by adcoms?

It’s good–probably enhances their writing abilities as well–but it’s not the Peace Corps. Maybe slightly above average?

^what would it compare to, in your opinion?

Check at your local library for the excellent PBS documenatary called [The Paper](Independent Lens - Independent Documentary Films | PBS).

It tracks the ethical choices and consequences made at Penn States’ student run paper. After viewing it, you will conclude that the education the students got from working on the paper was at least equal to that found in the classroom.

I’d compare it to a leadership position in a community service club, where you work more hours than those “once-a-week” clubs and you learn a bit on the side.
