Other Dandy Stuff
Lab Rotation at NU’s Lurie Cancer Center - pancreatic cancer, specifically.
Awesome volunteer hours, I got a stipend too!! By the time I apply, it’ll be two summers of work. Plus, a rec letter from the director of the cancer center… who can pull some major strings.
Doing a project and submitting an abstract for it.
Most likely Intel-ing/Siemens-ing said project.
I speak for the NSNA (cultural association) on topics important to Indian teens in America at our national retreats. I also submit material to the magazine the association runs.
I have an uncle who went to Harvard for both undergrad/grad school, and is currently accepting a tenured professorship offer… he’s a major player in economics and is definitely a familiar name there.

Recs should be excellent. And I can turn out awesome essays that are not only thoughtful but quite hilarious in a really unexpected way. They’re memorable and un-typical and… yea. I’m not planning to write about something vague like ‘identity’ or ‘searching for life purpose’ or anything like that. My family doesn’t have problems, I don’t have a disease/impairment… so I resort to comedy to make my essays stand out. They’ll be good. I’m sending a CD of my violin, a rec letter from my violin teacher who I’ve learnt from all my life, and definitely a writing sample.

So. Deep breath, guys… here they are:
Harvard (my dream^10000000 school)
Princeton
Stanford
Yale
NU
UChicago

Don’t worry… I have the rest of the safeties and stuff. Alright guys… have at it. oh oh and if you want to let me know what ‘bump’ and ‘10char’ mean… I’d appreciate it!!

You should be admitted to some of the six listed schools. You certainly are well qualified for all of them. Northwestern University & the University of Chicago are outstanding “admissions bargains” as they admit approximately 25% and 30%, respectively, yet offer academics equal to the “big four”, in my opinion. It is important to remember, however, that none of these six universities is an automatic admit for even an applicant with a perfect ACT score of 36.

sweet, thanks! I realize the tougher Ivies will require some luck… cough7.1%admitrate but this is encouraging

and what do ‘bump’ and ‘10char’ mean?

bump is where u post something in order to get ur thread up to the top of the forum list so ppl would click on it.

10char is when u have less than 10 characters and need extra filler characters to post a message.

that being said, we have similar stats! good luck, i think you’ll be able to get into NU and Uchicago and maybe one or two of the 4 top schools u listed.

thank you! and what can I improve on (if there’s anything I can do between now and December) to better my chances?

i think u should just keep doing what ur doing…get leadership positions in ur clubs…are u going anywhere for the summer?

not much (germany and prague are this summer; I tried to write the post from an application-time perspective to give the most accurate info). my family and I are taking a trip to Hawaii though… not sure that’d help much ;). Oh oh, and I forgot one thing – I’m thinking about starting a book club. Not even for college! Our school doesn’t have one, and because of AP Lang, I’ve realized that I actually really really love to read… and not just for fun… go rhetorical analyses! So yea. That’s a possibility.

any more takers?

come on guys… you know you want to!

Let’s get some more chances up in here…

if your uncle’s gonna be on staff in time, then you should have an advantage at harvard. If he’s not, then you still have a great chance!!

more chances please!!!

You are a very qualified applicant. Just a few things to point out:
-You are sending your SAT score in whether you want to or not :(. It will be added with your SAT Subject Tests, which most if not all of the schools you apply to will require. Sorry, I know it sucks but they will look at your 36 (Not that your SAT is bad…just saying). (I’m like 95% sure on this one … but hey my teacher could be wrong)
-You are a very qualified applicant, but you honestly never know. Your application is nearly flawless, but there are tons of kids out there just as qualified as you.
-If I had to find one tip for you, it would be extracurriculars. I think you should start that “book club” if you’re really interested and it would show that you’re well developed and into something. Showing you have a passion for something is key.

thank you!! oh, I didn’t know that about the SAT being sent with the subject tests… good to know. and yea, i think my extracurriculars could use a slight boost, and reading is most definitely something i love!

sigh there are too many flawless applications!! so hopefully I can set myself apart through my essays and have a little bit of luck too!

Thats a great thread title BTW!

haha yea, when I was trying to think of a title, I was like… it’s pretty obvious what the thread’s about! a title is totally unnecessary! lol

please please please chance me!!!

i’d really appreciate any more chances!
