I’ve been reading a lot of posts about chances … etc. But I was thinking that if someone does have top scores, high grades, strong ECs and they apply to at least 5 ivies/top schools it seems like most people do get into at least one. Do you agree? I haven’t heard many stories on here of many TOP STUDENTS having to go to a mediocre school because they didn’t get into a top one.

Most, but definitely not all…

This is the stupidest thread I’ve read ever.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/192395-no-acceptances-one-kids-story-year-later.html?highlight=love+safety+andison

Agreed .

^^^^^ Totally agree about this story!!

I think if you expand your list to eight schools you should have it covered. Remember though each application statistically is an independent event. Best to include a “safety”.

I shouuld clarify: THIS is the stupidest thread ever. The link I posted is a good object lesson.

Yeah, read the link. Not only should you have a safety and top reaches, you should also have schools in the middle so you can still go to a great school when the Ivies don’t pull through. And LOVE all your schools, even the safety.

NOTHING is guaranteed.
