’m applying to American University this cycle and I’m a bit confused about their test-optional policy. They say scores aren’t required, but I’ve heard mixed experiences from applicants in previous years.
If you applied test-optional to AU, did you feel it affected your chances?
Did anyone get accepted without submitting scores?
And do strong essays/extracurriculars really make up for missing test scores?
I’d really appreciate honest experiences or any insights from current students and past applicants. Thank you!
Only 30 percent of students admitted to American submit test scores. A large majority are admitted test optional. You can find this info in their Common Data Set. Having said that, I’m sure a good test score* can help, but most people don’t submit.
*(Their mid-50 range of scores is SAT 1300-1430 and ACT 29-32. If you are in that range or above, I would submit a score. )
As valid as this question is, I’ll let a high school student or their parent repost the question if they want more options to the above definitive answer.
