<p>So my father is a sr. board member of a big-name pharmaceutical company. He’s pushing me to do some type of engineering - probably either mechanical or biomedical - at an Ivy that isn’t really well known for sciences. In addition, this school has a really good econ/poly sci program that I’m interested in (particularly the economics part). This semester I took chem, calc, econ, and politicial science and i really loved the latter two (and did really well in them). In my chem/calc classes, I did fine but I didn’t love them. My dad says that you really have to UNDERSTAND the product before you can do business with it…hence why an engineering degree is best (ex. biomedical eng if you’re going into pharmaceutical industry, env eng if you’re going into energy, etc.). </p>
<p>what do you guys think? is econ not so good with respects to that? i KNOW i want to go into business, though maybe not i-banking…is it still a good track for that or would, say, mech eng be a better fit? i’m also interested in applying to b-school, such as HBS 2+2 program…would econ/poly sci not be so good for that?</p>
