Is an email from the Dean of Admission something significant/to care about?

I was recently offered admission to a university I applied to as a safety, and just yesterday, the Dean emailed me about “how thrilled” they are to offer me admission.

For context, my SAT(1550) and GPA(4.23) are well above their average scores (SAT 1230, GPA 3.82).

I haven’t made any commitments yet, but I have been given significantly better offers from my non-safeties so I can say that I will not be going there for sure.

Still, I’d like to know if emails of this nature are, for lack of a better word, sincere.

Thanks in advance.

@“Erin’s Dad” That’s what I thought so too.

Since you’re well above their GPA/test numbers, I believe that it probably is sincere.

They would love to have a high stat student enroll, which would help to lift their reportable averages. If you attend, it makes them look good.

As to why they haven’t offered a financial incentive for you to attend, my thoughts are perhaps they can’t. What they can do - and did - was to have the Dean personally reach out to you.
