Is an F on an application a death sentence?

I’m a senior in high school in the IB Program, and I want to go JMU or VaTech, but last semester when I submitted my applications there were two missing assignments for my HL IB English 12 class which made me send off my transcripts with As and Bs, but with one F for that class this semester. It’s a year-long class, and I’m sure I’ll pass it, but naturally I’m worried that they’ll have a problem with my transcript for the one bad grade. The assignments have now been graded, and I have a B in the class now, but since it’s already been sent in, I think it’s too late for them to see it.

The only places I applied are JMU and VaTech, and here’s what I’m looking like at school:
Grades: Mainly As and Bs, almost exclusively AP and IB classes
GPA: 3.99 weighted (about 3.0 unweighted, I think, been a while since I’ve checked), even with the F
ACT: 29 (didn’t submit SAT)
Things colleges might like to hear: Beta state champion in French (took 5 years of it), frequent traveler worldwide, in-state applicant, IB diploma candidate, play violin, intended biotech or biochem major, very involved in volunteering (which I know VaTech will like at least)

Hopefully I’m just being paranoid, but I’d like to hear it from someone who knows what they’re talking about. Thanks in advance for the help, if you have any questions I’m here to answer them.

VA resident here so i’m familiar with Tech and Madison. You have a great ACT for both schools, you did IB, and your gpa isn’t too bad also. I think that it isn’t a deal breaker, but I would see if it’s possible to have your counselor send the updated grade to the school via parchment or give them a call. Honestly, though with rigour of IB and your ACT score i’d be surprised if you didn’t get into JMU, Va tech is the only long shot (only if you’re applying for engineering though). GL though dude.

If your grade is improving, send a quick note to the schools to let them know you had some difficulties but they have resolve and your grade has improved. Or even better, see if your Guidence Counselor can make “the call”.

tell the colleges that your grade changed, or do something. plus, your schools prolly will check bc an F is super rare lol. correct me if im wrong, just do something about it.
