Is anyone familiar with Frontier Airlines?

Are they o.k.? Rates seem a little lower than competitors and their carry-on luggage policy looks to be a little more generous.

I’ve travelled on Frontier a few times and been very happy with the experience and the price. Now if only they offered flights to more places I want to go to …

No prob with my experiences. But they don’t go to places i want to go

I flew Frontier one time several years back and look for the opportunity to fly again with them. Our local FBOs don’t offer Frontier so I usually fly Southwest. I love that airline, but Frontier was wonderful with friendly staff and state of the art (at that time) flight tracker screens. I would fly them again if given the opportunity.

Thanks, everyone. We’ll give them a try.

I’ll be the lone dissenter here. We were lured to Frontier by their much cheaper prices, and I think that if you fly during good weather you might be okay. However, we won’t fly them again.

During the winter snowstorm season last December, they refused to allow people to rebook their tickets until the day of the flight–all of the other airlines were allowing re-booking 2 days prior, when the bad weather was forecast. By that time, of course, there were no seats available. My son had to wait 5 days (holiday season) for his re-booked ticket. While he was on the bus to the airport in Denver, they cancelled this flight (weather was fine)–we found out before he did. I immediately got on the phone to get him on the last flight arriving in our home airport, on a different airline, and they said that flight was full. I insisted I speak to a manager, said my son had already waited 5 days to get home due to the bad weather and Frontier’s refusal to allow re-booking, and told them they had to get him on that flight. Lo and behold suddenly seats appeared and he got home. My son said there were several empty seats on the plane.

Another problem with Frontier is that they don’t have lots of flights, so if for some reason you miss a connection you’re out of luck. They won’t put you on another airline unless they cancel a flight.

We have vouchers with them but absolutely won’t fly them again.

My kids used to fly on them all the time going to their dad’s and we never had a problem. And just the other day, my boss had me cancel some flights due to an emergency. Frontier not only let her cancel without any financial penalty, they made sure I understood exactly the terms of any rebooking she did (at no extra charge, for up to a year). The person I spoke to even explained to keep the TICKET number handy, since the CONFIRMATION number sometimes expires or becomes hard to find.

The other airline-United, charged her $150 PER FLIGHT to cancel. In one case that was only a few dollars less than the flight itself.

So did he end up taking a Frontier flight home or was it another airline?

We had a similar situation on Spirit Airlines last year. They told us “no availability” for 5 days.

The only good thing is that Frontier flies into 3 cities within 2 hours of my son’s university. I would hope that would help if we encountered a similar situation. Do you want to sell your vouchers;) ?

Unfortunately each of our vouchers must be for tickets issued in our names!

For what it’s worth, they have a policy that if you find the flight you end up booking with Frontier for a cheaper fare elsewhere, they will give you a $100 voucher and refund the difference. We found a much cheaper fare on Orbitz, hence the vouchers.

I’ve flown Frontier once. I needed to get from Denver to Casper, Wyoming for a conference. The plane was a small 20 seater and the pilot looked 12, but we made it and the flight was cheap.

We have flown Frontier a few times with no issues, though only in the spring, so no comments about weather problems. Our baggage was free, nice perk. No idea how that happened since the tickets were no more that other airlines.

I have had good experiences with Frontier and DEN is a very nice hub airport (conspiracy theories notwithstanding). They have had financial problems but that is true for almost all airlines. FYI: each aircraft in their fleet is named for a unique animal painted on the tail.

They are the only US airline to allow guinea pigs in the cabin ;)

My d had the same experience as martharap.

Flight was cancelled to Salt Lake City due to weather, next available flight was 2 days later. I paid for her to take a delta flight the following morning.

The issue was that they offered only 3 flights a day- delta had a flight an hour.

Lesson learned. She spent more on overnight hotel, cabs, foods than she saved by booking Frontier over delta. Never again!!

Why couldn’t you have a piggie in a carrying cage on any airline? There was a puppy in a small carry on cage behind us on a flight last week… They seem like a lot less trouble than a dog or cat could be.

I used to fly Frontier pretty often and did not have any issues that I can remember. Southwest flies those same routes now, so we usually fly them instead these days.

Not a fan. I think they might be fine in wonderful weather at non-peak times but I’d stay far far away in the winter and around the holidays. Frontier was a mess during the holidays this year. No more Frontier for my Colorado kids.

But these days all airlines are a crap shoot. United through one of their connectors just left my sibling in O’Hare this week…no available plane for her connecting flight…she was sitting next to the pilot in the wait area while the airlines “looked for a plane.” But he timed out, turned to her as he was leaving and said “so sorry but you’re probably not going anywhere tonight.” She sat there for two more hours, actually taxied out at ORD on a plane with a different pilot they found and then turnaround and back in and she said they were third or forth in line for takeoff before the airline finally said “so sorry you’re not going anywhere tonight” and then they sat on a tarmac for a half hour while they looked for a gate to return to. I’m sure there was much cursing in the air traffic control tower. 5 and a half hours after she was supposed to leave and 10 hours after she landed from LAX. Give yourself lots of time no matter what airline in case you lose the odds.

We have used Frontier quite a number of times. It flies the exact same route from our city to Denver as United and connected to my D’s college midwest city. 80% of the time we had no problems. In our case they have been no better or worse then United or Delta. I usually went by price.

They now have a place in Trenton, NJ. We’ve not used them yet, but they do offer tempting prices. I"m so frustrated that flying has become an ordeal rather than the fun event it used to be, that I am much less inclined to travel by air these days. Sigh.

Frontier is OK. I can usually get extra leg room seats for fewer $$ than other airlines. The flights attendants tend to be on the surly side, but the Direct TV and flight tracker (every seat has it’s own screen) help the time pass. The Frontier portion of the Denver hub tends to be very crowded and the eating /shopping options during the mind-numbing layovers are limited.

Just off the press. From abc news. Frontier is going to charge passengers for carryon from $25 up to $100. They also will start to charge $2 per soft drinks.

Sounds desperate.
