Ugly brown bugs - and they let out a horrible stink when they’re threatened (or squished).
I think they were brought here from Asia. We’ve seen more in our house in the last year. One crawled on me when I was sleeping…yikes! And one in the car today on the highway - I freaked out a bit and he went and did the smelly thing…had to open all the windows. And then I couldn’t find him after I stopped!
So, my question, does anyone out there know how to get rid of these things? Is there a safe pesticide that’s effective? In the summer, we sometimes have 10 or 15 sitting on our front door screen. I hate them! Right now, we just grab them in a tissue and flush them.

I didn’t know that stink bugs were real! Learn something new everyday.

When we moved to this house, we found out that our area is the land of the unkillable fleas. We finally asked a few neighbors what they used in their yards and they all recommended the same formula from our local nursery.

So, that would be my plan. Knock on some neighbors doors and ask what they use. Best of luck to you, I know how annoying it can be.

We’ve had a lot of these in the past couple of years. I do the the tissue and flush thing, being careful not to squish them. Here’s a good article: [Stink Bugs On the Move](http://paipm.cas.psu.edu/817.htm)

We’ve found a few of them in our house in the past 2 weeks. Ewwwww.

I think it is a big problem in Eastern PA. We have tons of them …started 2 years ago and has gotten progressively worse. The good news is they don’t “nest” in your house and they don’t seem to try to get into food or anything. They are just gross. Be careful not to vacuum any up or you’ll spread the odor throughout your home. I haven’t found a “cure” so I keep throwing them back outside or flushing them.

The odd thing is I have friends that live within 10 minutes of me that say they don’t have them at all and didn’t even know what I was tallking about. I am not sure if it depends on the landscaping around your home or what. I feel your pain…

Just wanted to add that when we first started seeing them I thought they were kind of cute and I wasn’t bothered too much. I even refused to kill them and just gently put them outside…now they have worn out their welcome!!!

Southeastern PA here and, yes, I’ve been finding those gross creatures in and around my home in the last year. Like PA Mom mentioned, they don’t seem to do any harm, they’re just gross, as well as a nuisance.

If anyone can tell me how to eliminate or minimize these gross things, I will be eternally grateful. They’ve gotten worse over the past 2 years or so. We used to have them only in the summer in the family room. Now its progressed so that we have them year round, upstairs and downstairs. The warm weather makes them come out in droves. I’ve found up to a dozen in a room at one time. They used to really freak me out. Now I’m brave enough to pick one up in my bare hands and dump it outside. The other morning, one fell off the ceiling right into my oatmeal. I HATE THESE THINGS!!!

Mansfield are you in Pennsylvania as well?
I have done some research and have not found an answer. A neighbor called an exterminator and they told her they could not help her. I am just going to keep flushing them I guess until I hear a better option.
I have found that they leave some dark spots (droppings? ) on windowsills, but that seems to be the only damage they do. The spots wipe clean easily with a wet cloth. At least they are not in my food!!! And that oatmeal addition …ewwwww. I’m so sorry you had to experience that!

Wow, in your houses and cars? We get them out here in California once in a while, but not inside. The big problem in our house is ants! Completely disgusting and impossible to really keep out of the house.

THAT’S what these black spots on the windowsills are.

(Yes, we have our share of stink bugs too. But I never knew about the droppings.)

Ugh… Bugs :(

Thankfully we haven’t had to deal with much other than mosquitos in the spring and fire ants in the summer/fall. Our landscapers are here every week putting God knows what chemicals on the lawn and around the house but it seems to be working so far.

I think the only major pest we had was a baby scorpion found in our new tub when we were having the master bathroom remodeled. My boyfriend freaked out and the next day had 3 exterminators out here. lol

Reading these stories makes me want to have someone come over to check the seals around the doors, windows, and baseboards.

Yes, our neighbors are infested too and no one knows what to do!
I used to be OK with them - but honestly - it’s really gross to have them in my bedroom - and the one in bed was just too much! My H didn’t believe me…I think he thought I was having a bad dream (yeah, I have bug dreams sometimes). But I wouldn’t get back in bed - went to the guestroom. Sure enough, we found a dead one in bed in the morning. My h must have rolled over on it…EWWWW.
I can’t stand it but I guess I have to live with it. Don’t want to waste money on an exterminator if nothing works!

They’re in SW PA too. They come out when the weather warms up, and we find them upstairs near the attic. Those and the centipedes! I prefer the stink bugs, they’re easier to catch and flush.

It’s weird you’re mentioning these guys now-- here on Long Island we’re more apt to have them in the later summer and fall. I haven’t seen any yet, but am sure they’ll be back :(. For some reason they always end up in one of our upstairs bedrooms-- don’t know if they’re hiding in the attic (didn’t see any there) or just automatically head “up” once they get in the house. Not only are they able to shoot that stinking jet out of their but for an incredibly surprising distance, but they’re big enough that they really scare the kids when they’re buzzing and bombing around, bumping into lights and all. They then usually land on someone’s bedspread, where it takes us half an hour to find them.
For a picture, look up the Brown Marmorated Stinkbug on Google or Yahoo Images. Is that the one? Ours look similar, but maybe a bit more dark and leggy. When I think of a “classic” stink bug, I think of the flat green ones.

we dont have so many annoying bugs- and since I have redone my yard to attract even more predators ( wildlife), I expect the birds will eat the ones we do have.

lspf72- that’s the one! Unfortunately, we have them in our house a lot more frequently than they state in the article. We have seen a stray one here and there over the winter months, then they started picking up a few weeks ago and have gotten worse the last couple of days. I think they try to escape the heat as well as the cold. I notice them between my screen and windows frequently (trapped) so I guess that’s their main entry.

The good news is that they are slow, so they are easy to catch.
I had no idea that they were up in Long Island as well!

Found this article which I thought had some new and interesting information…

I think we may need to put screens on our attic vents… that may be where they are easily getting in (besides the windows).

We should have a count going LOL
So far today I have caught 6 of the little buggers!

We have them as well, but I wouldn’t call it an infestation or anything. I’ll throw out one or two a day - more in the fall. I like how they are big and easy to pick up. They don’t get into food or make holes in clothing so they don’t bother me. I’ve heard from friends that have older houses and perhaps more gaps between windows and doors, that they will have tens of them come in daily during the fall. That would be annoying.

Yuck, I have seen these outside and never knew what they were ! they can stay outside as far as I am concerned.
I have had some strange little spotted bugs on and aound my windowsills. I don’t know what they are , but a little Raid seemed to do them in.

Just started getting them here in Northern NJ. I second all the “ughs”. H, an unreformed bugologist, thinks they’re cool.
