Stumbled on this thread when searching for UCM student gov’t articles, I was part of the inagural class of UCM, does anyone have any general questions? I dont mind answering them!

do UCM accept out-of-state students b/c my friend is from Texas and she REALLY wants to go back to California for college…but her SATs were pretty low though so she’s afraid she won’t get in (i think it was 1400 outta 2400 or sumthing)…but then she has had really BAD family hardships that she had to go through…so do u think she has a chance at UCM…oh yea she lived in Cali for 16 years before she had to move to Texas…thanxxx for ur help!

Does anyone know what the current acceptance is for UCM with a high GPA and a low SAT?

Just to put your mind at ease: data from fall 2006 admissions.

~20% of applicants with a GPA under 3.0 got in.

~75% of applicants with ~1500 SAT1 scores got in.

My point: STOP WORRYING!

yeah in some 10 or 20 years later, Merced will be one of the top schools hopefully. its apartment housing, small class and good opportunities for leaderships etc are the best reason to go to merced!!

Nope. I got into UCD.

I’m attending UC Merced! in the fall! =D I choose it over UCR and CSU’s

To: Leviathan08

What factors made you decide on UCM over your other choices?

my roommate went t UCM over UCLA, I had to look at his acceptance letter to LA to believe it lol

Well of course the 1)student teacher ratio, 2)beautiful, cozy campus, 3)I actually saw the chancellor lol (I mean honestly at what school do you actally get to see him? lol) 4)Once i visited the school I felt right at home 5) the atmosphere to me(and current UCM undergrads) is study friendly 6)The gym is right across the street from the dorms 7)The library is amazing! lol (even though there’s lots of bird poop on the window on the 3rd floor lol. 8)All students who go there all speak positive about the school 9)It’s closer to home(I’m in the Bay Area) and I can get extra helped from my Profs 10)I realized UCM is really the college of opportunity 11) Our mascot is sexy! =D

To Premed4life:

wow samething happened at my school. No one believed i got into any where but UCM. They thought I only picked the school because it was my only choice. But, i appealed UCLA and if they accept me I still will choose UCM ove r it.

^ Why would you go through the effort of appealing if you did not want to go to UCLA?

Considering that you got rejected from mid tier UC’s, it seems like a bit of a stretch to expect an appeal from UCLA to come through. Saying that you “would go to UCM over UCLA” is fine to say and is true in some unsual cases, but it sure sounds to me that you would pick UCLA and other UC’s over UCM if you were admitted to them.

It looks to me that you have the bitter school syndrome (BSS) where you dislike all the schools that reject you and praise those that accepted you.

To Cali Trumpet:
NO BSS HERE TRUST ME! I don’t dislike any schools that denied me. Of course it bothered me for a while but, I still might go to one of them (UCB or UCLA) for Grad school. Expecting to be accepted on an appeal is indeed a bit of a stretch but, I went through the effort to appeal because I didn’t want to move on and think “may be if I’d appealed I would have gotten in” so I appealed. Plus it’s FREE! so why not? Yes, it is highly unlikely that I’d get accepted once rejected but I was admitted to UCR and CSU’s and I’m still waiting to hear from UCSB and UCSC(I didn’t know they had late decisions but they do =D), and those are all fine schools, but in the end I am choosing UCM. Saying someone choosing UCM over UCLA is true in some UNUSUAL cases only shows how you truly feel about UCM. However, every one is entitled to their own opinion.

i am attending ucmerced.I got into ucsd, ucsc, not ucla(oh well).it’s a good college was my fallback but family, and good thing i stayed actually. But yeah i was planning ucsc. But hey, i know people here that being from far away chose this place, i guess it ok if you like small towns, its in a pretty calm place.

i will be turning down UCLA, Davis, Irvine, and UCSB for UCM! go bobcats!

I am, for fall 2010.

If you don’t mind me asking, why?

Even if you get into Davis or another mid-tier UC?

I am a kind of person who wants the feel of a private university. (less than 8,000 students). Nearly all the UC’s have at least 20,000+ (except for ucsb and riverside and ucsc).

If i get into ucsb, i might go there cuz i live 30 minutes away. But my stats are below average for all the Uc’s cept riverside, santa cruz, and merced.

I didn’t apply, but even if I and were accepted I wouldn’t attend.
I’d rather go to CalPoly (not meant in a bad way).

I’m attending even though I already posted on here saying that lol

I’m seriously considering going to UCM even though I’ll probably get accepted to all of the other UC schools. I really like how the house pricing is really cheap out there because I’ve been looking at UCD and it is so expensive that I doubt I could afford it. I really don’t want to live in a dorm if I can help it. I want to major in psychology but I don’t know if UCM is a good school to major in that. Does any one know if in Merced there is any public horse arenas or boarding? Thanks!
