Watching baby try to stand much more pleasant than the birthing ! No release of gender yet ! Amazing it will stand and nurse right away - incredible
The baby’s B-day is April 15th! Tax Day, so I vote to call her/him Sammy (after Uncle Sam). 
The baby just got up.
Does anyone know how long the baby stays with April? Until how old??

I wish the staff would keep back until the calf starts to nurse.
The baby looks so tiny compared to April and then you see the staff and realize she must be about 6 ft tall. I got really nervous right after the birth. That was a pretty big drop and he/she just kind of laid there for a while.
I came down this morning and turned on the giraffe cam, as usual. Was sure after yesterday’s pacing that something would have happened. Sure enough the hooves were out!
Now I keep wishing April would just turn to give the baby a good angle on the nursing thing!
I also wish that someone could go in and yank that piece of the amniotic sack that is hanging out of her, and obviously annoying her. But obviously they don’t want to disturb her and the calf.
I’m sure she can take care of it herself.
I read somewhere that when the baby drops like that it breaks the amniotic sack, demolishes the umbilical chord and force the baby to take its first breath. Sounds logical but still looked painful.

Anybody notice the sponsor logo changed from ToysRus to BabiesRus? I know it the same company but thought the change coinciding with the birth was a nice touch.
I know he’s only a few hours old so his looks may change but to me, he looks more like Oliver than April. He is just so stinkin’ cute! :x
Wow. Just a few hours ago he was barely able to stand and now he just took a hop, skip and jump across the pen! So cute how he’s getting to know Oliver, the baby daddy, while April is chowing down in the corner. :x
Oh boy! There will be a public vote ($1/vote) for the baby’s name online. Haven’t they learned any lessons? The baby might end up with a name like Geoffrey McGiraffeface!

The monetizing of this whole thing has become a real turn off to me.
i’m so thankful for the text notices; was on way to a funeral and able to see it all live. would never have thought of it without that notice. I was very worried for a bit when the baby came out; he just laid there for what seemed like a long time. I was so moved when i saw movement finally in the baby. It was sweet and a nice thing to start our day.
