Is applying to 9 school too much?

As long as you have at least one safety that:

You will certainly be admitted to.

You will certainly be able to afford.

You will find the desired academic programs.

You will like attending.

Then the rest of the application list can have any number of other schools.

That isn’t too many as long as you can afford the application fees and all schools would be affordable for you.

Most students I know apply to many. A few apply to less and a few apply to more. Your number seems pretty average.

Sounds perfect. Just be sure the safeties are truly safeties, that you can get into…and afford.

Like the rest of them said, make sure your safeties are actually safeties. Also, make sure that it won’t cost too much for you personally. You’ll have to pay application fees as well as send in multiple test scores (tests alone should cost almost $200 if you are applying to 9), so that’s a thing to keep in mind.

I have a thought that you cannot really apply to too many schools, so long you have a balanced list of schools and of those you actually would like to attend.

It seems to me that if you have a true safety, you would only need one. A total of nine schools is not too many.
