<p>I am in Arkansas and I am looking for schools offer generous OOS merit aid. i have 3.7 GPA and 27 ACT and with that i qualify for instate tuition at Boise state. I really don’t want to go to instate schools so from any other school i have seen, this is my best deal. but is Boise State that good of a school that i should go that far away, plus travel expenses? Also I would probably be able to be admitted to the honors college</p>
<p>Depends. Only you can answer that question. Have you visited that college? Did it seem like a good fit for you? What is your major? Do you want to live in/near Idaho after graduation? Traveling costs to a college that far away would probably amount to about 2000 a year, depending on how many times you come home during breaks and whatnot. I think the visit is essential if you want to decide if it is a good fit. Also, I have heard Tulane gives good merit aid (free to apply through their website as well) if you have good grades, so that might be closer and a better consideration</p>

<p>Seriously, for some people, distance doesn’t matter, so it might be a great fit. But getting from where you are to Boise is likely to be an all-day affair, not to mention expensive, so I would consider if that’s an issue. Try plugging in some likely travel times like the beginning of school, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, and end of school into a travel site like Kayak to get an idea of what it’s going to take. (Southwest will require you use their site.) Boise to Little Rock and back at Thanksgiving is going to be $600, so you might have to forego going home if that’s too big a hit. Driving would be an option, but that’s a LONG two day drive. Each way.</p>
<p>A 1000 miles to an easier and cheaper place to get in and out of might not be that big a deal, e.g. a big city, but some places are just really hard and expensive to get to. It has to be a consideration.</p>
<p>If you want to go out of state and can do so at a cost you can afford, why do you ask ‘worth it’? Worth what exactly? How far you are in miles is sometimes very different that how far in travel time. You can be closer and take twice as long to get home. With internet, skype, email and telephones I don’t see it as a big deal.</p>
<p>If your ACT were just a bit higher, you’d have a few more options of even better tuition deals. Check this thread, there might be more options for you, I think I’m linking to the page with the most recent updates by Bob Wallace, about halfway down:

<p>No it’s not worth it, particularly when you’re comparing Boise State to the Arkansas system of higher ed. </p>
<p>Additionally Tulane only gives good merit to the upper echelon of students, NOT students with the OP’s stats. </p>
<p>Besides the University of Arkansas, and even including it really, Arkansas isn’t a bastion of education but neither is Boise State, so unless you were planning on going to University of Arkansas or you don’t wanna live fair away then I think its an okay choice.</p>
