All kids hear growing up is how important college is to be successful and how you need to go to college to get a good career. But what if I’m not looking for a career? Since I was probably 10 years old I have been doing online business ventures and I know I want to be an entrepreneur of some sort. For someone like me, is it worth it to spend upwards of $100k on college if I am looking to be self-employed?
Part of the reason why I’m not looking forward to going to college is because I live in Wisconsin and can only afford in-state tuition. I don’t want to live in Wisconsin at all and I want to move to California as soon as possible. I want to go to UCLA but that will cost me over $200k since I will be OOS.
My parents want me to go to UW Madison, and I’m confident I would be accepted, but I really don’t want to spend 4-6 years of my life there, especially if I don’t need to. If I want to start my own business, should I spend another 4+ years of my life living in Wisconsin getting a degree I might not need?
This has been a hard decision for me because my whole life I just expected that I would go to college but now that I have to start applying to schools I’m realizing that I don’t really want to go to college in Wisconsin. What should I do?
