Is Columbia impersonal?

I am transferring to Columbia, and at my current school, every students at least vaguely knows the other 60-70% of the students, and there are a few popular kids who everyone knows about.

Do Columbia students, becuase of its size, only know their friends and few others, and the rest of the students complete strangers to them?

I know the names of 19500/22000 students, they all know me, and I now know 60% of faculty and 90% of their families.

What is that supposed to mean?

it means he is saying that it’s unreasonable to judge the “impersonal-ness” of a school by how well you know XX% of the population. Especially when Columbia sounds like a bigger school than the one you are coming from.

Sorry I can’t be helpful and answer your questions because I don’t know yet.

Oh and also because he knows family of faculty more he might be trying to clue us in on the fact that he has slept with many of his professor’s wives.

Or husbands.

It’s cut-throat out there, gotta keep your GPA up SOMEHOW. And everyone goes for the old “sleeping with your professor” route. Might as well mix it up a little.
