Is consistency in recommendations good?

Hi,
If I’m having my teachers emphasize a particular three qualities, is it a good idea to have my parents fill out their form in a similar manner? This form is handed off to guidance counselors for them to write their recommendations. In other words, should the traits teachers say I exemplify be the same across the board, or should there be some variation? Thanks for the help!

You shouldn’t be telling your teachers what to write. Yes, there may be a parental brag sheet, which should be the same across the board, but that’s all you need to do. It’s up to your recommenders to decide what they highlight.

Agree, it is not your place to ask teachers to emphasize specific attributes. In addition, I see no benefit to having two letters of recommendation that say basically the same thing.

Teachers ask students to fill out forms as to what they think are three qualities they showed. This is mandatory for all students at my school, and I can only assume this is directly used in recommendations. Of course, each teacher also adds their own details; they’re not carbon copies.

Then it is fine to fill out the forms however you see fit.

@CollegePrepping2,

You should fill out the form what you think your best qualiies are. Have your parents fill out a brag sheet what they think your best qulities are. Yours and theirs may not be the same. What you see yourself and what your parents see in you could be different. As long as they are admirable qualities, it will be good for your GC to know and write about.

The reason we’re asked to write a letter of recommendation is to get our opinion of the kid, not his. So fill out the forms as honestly as you can, then leave it up to your teachers to write the letters the feel they should write. They shoudl know you well enough that they won’t overly rely on the form

Thanks guys, I decided to just let my parents do it without my input, and filled out the teacher requested forms as I normally would.
