Will attending Crimson Global Academy increase my chances of getting into Ivy Leagues? On Niche it shows most of their students went to Ivy Leagues.
On its own? No. And no school can make that claim. Ivy League universities admit students, not high schools.
How many of their students are high level athletes? The two we knew who went there were divers and went to ivies, but their sport helped them attend. The school was just how they were able to practice so much.
They charge enormous fees and are VC backed, for profit. They originated out of NZ/Australia where they have a reputation for overcharging to get wealthy kids in to very selective universities. And sometimes they do. More often they don’t. But they still collect those fees!! Their marketing is relentless. And the kids we know who went probably would have had a solid shot at it without the extra “packaging”.
The “academy” is a profit expansion product from their college counseling. Also provides a pipeline of customers for that counseling. We know some of the investors. They see insecure parents as prime for separation from their cash.
If I were you, I would go to high school in person. Enjoy your young life and human connection. If you really want an online high school, try Stanford.
Adding: They are probably fine for a an online high school. Just fine. But this whole “we have the secret sauce” shtick is… icky.
Authenticity is all the rage, I’m told. It’s a better path.
I am highly skeptical of any entity with a name that is a dog whistle (Crimson as in Alabama? I don’t think so…) and promises what no entity can actually deliver.
But to answer your question: yes, it is “legitimate”. I just caution anyone to dig a little deeper on Crimson’s claims/stats. There are many options out there.
And sorry to be chatting with myself. Is there an edit button that I haven’t found yet? Three posts is two too many. Sitting on my hands now…
After you post a response, there will be a line of light gray icons under your post towards the right side. For a while one of these looks like a pencil. If you click on the pencil then you get to edit your post. After a while the pencil disappears.
I just took a quick look at what I found on-line and I am very skeptical. To me, the way to get into a highly ranked university, such as an Ivy League university, includes being authentic, and responsible, and being a very strong student.
I did not attend an Ivy League school. I do however have degrees from MIT and Stanford (neither is in the Ivy League). I found that the students there came from a very, very wide range of high schools (and in graduate school came from a very, very wide range of undergraduate colleges and universities). What they had in common is that they did very well at whatever high school they attended. What you do is going to be much more important than where you do it.
