Is Crystal Light as healthy as it seems?

You might want to look at the sodastream website. They have flavors that are with low or no sugar. Some flavors are sweetened with stevia. They also waters with flavors. They claim the cost is about 25 cents per liter which is not bad plus you don’t have to throw away any bottles.

Does Crystal light use Stevia, or do they use Truvia?

Same thing. Truvia is just a brand name for stevia. It’s like asking if something has aspartame or Equal.

The woman who wrote that blog doesn’t appear to have any food science credentials.

I have a friend whose sodium level is too LOW. She is supposed to get the equivalent of 8 glasses of liquid a day. She said you wouldn’t believe how hard it is to drink that LITTLE! You are supposed to count yogurt, coffee, etc. The idea that coffee doesn’t count due to caffeine is faulty.

If you run a LOT, you should drink more. I remember when I first started running, I would chug a bunch of water before a 5k! There is no need for that. Serious runners don’t even take water with them unless it is a very hot day or they are going more than 10 miles or so.

Maine is right. I think the 8 glasses a day recommendation emerged when people decided to abandon Coke and switch to Dasani. I cannot imagine being pregnant and drinking that much water on top of my normal liquids (lettuce, tea, watermelon, fruit)! I’d be in the bathroom all the time and no work would ever get done! ;)

You need to take into account that things like coffee & tea can act like diuretics.
You should have see how much water my D made me drink when I had heat exhaustion last week.
I probably should have gone to the hospital, but as they had to evacuate the hospital, because of the fires, there really wasn’t anywhere to go. But she has been trained as a wilderness first responder & she took pretty good care of me.

Cargill is going to have to rebrand Truvia, methinks.
They’ve settled out of court.

I’ve been drinking Crystal Light for years and love it. I don’t like the “taste” of plain water so it’s a good way for me to stay hydrated (I dehydrate very easily.) However, I do find that the more water I drink, the more I want, and then I can ease off the Crystal Light unless I need something flavored.

Every once in a while, when I find myself wanting something carbonated, I buy Safeway/Vons brand sparkling water. They’re flavored and carbonated (and yes, have the artificial sweeteners) but are good for every once in a while, IMO.

As you see on this thread, it depends who you talk to. I probably consume too much Crystal Light, as well as Wylers, but certainly for some folks doing that is much healthier than consuming large amounts of refined sugar. I just happen to like the fruit (and tea) flavors of the powder mixes. Be reasonable in your consumption.

As for water, yeah the 8 glasses a day thing is unhealthy for some people, particularly folks with some kinds of heart problems, such as A-Fib. Some licensed nutritionists say drink no more than 40 ounces of liquid a day.

“using Crystal Light” -

 • why? I do not have experience. If I want to make something sweeter, I use only honey. I do not like the taste of any other things, including sugar. I add a bit of cranberry juice to water or dring plain water or add lemon. I would not add anything else, since it taste nasty. You know that you can train you taste buds in anything. I stopped using butter and now hate the taste and smell of butter.
I believe that it is a normal assumption that you do not try anything new during pregnancy any way aside from the things rescribed by you medical provider (like pregnancy vitamins or something else)

We make watermelon water:
Blend until pureed
6 cups watermelon cubed
3/4 cup H2O.
Put in a pitcher w/ice and 3 lime slices and a sprig of mint in pitcher.

Crystal light is not healthy, but if it is better than what you are already imbibing, then do it. I object to the artificial colors. I don’t know if there is a kind without artificial color, but if so, that would be best. Otherwise, best to drink iced green or herbal tea (the natural kind without additives) or water. IMO

Orange slices in water are a little sweeter than lemon.

Thanks! @PhotoOp

I don’t know if this product is available near you, but a relative who was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes last year now drinks it instead of Coke. He can’t/won’t consume artificial sweeteners so dietCoke was not an option. He likes the Tangerine-Orange and Wild Cherry flavors, and said that the fizz helped him give up soft drinks. <a href=“Sparkling Water | Syfo Products | Flavored Sparkling Water”>http://syfobeverages.com/products/sparkling-waters/</a>

I picked up a bottle of Passionfruit green tea by Republic of Tea. It is zero sodium no sweeteners. The only ingredient I am not sure of is what natural flavors mean. I find it a bit sweet and thirst quenching but I might not be a good judge since I don’t drink a lot of sweet drinks.

You should eliminate ALL artificial sweeteners ALL the time, but especially if you are pregnant. I drink seltzer as well as water.

Cucumber slices in cold water. Iced. Ahhh.

@razorsharp Didn’t see this post! I do have a soda stream at home  I love being able to control the sweetness of the soda. For now, we ran out of syrup, so we have just been using seltzer, but it tastes good and the kids love to use it.

@dyiu13 Does that even have a taste lol?

Cucumber water in my experience does have somewhat of a taste, but it’s mostly just very refreshing.
