Is Crystal Light as healthy as it seems?

I am considering cutting a lot of sugar out of my diet. I am planning on doing that through limiting fruit juices and using Crystal Light. Is it healthy though? It is made with stevia instead of real sugar. Also, it has no nutritional content and just 3g of sugar. Does anyone have an experience with it?

Additional Info: I have no heart problems or insulin problems. However, I am pregnant.

There is some thought that artificial sweeteners could induce people to consume more calories, increasing the risk of obesity, since the sweet taste primes the body to expect more calorie intake than what the artificially sweetened food or drink contains.

I’m not well versed on where Crystal Light lies in the health department, but have you tried infused water?

Soaking fruits in your water adds flavor. Many combinations to try!

I just add lemon juice to my water.

I like sparkling water with lime or lemon flavors -not sweet, zero cals.

I have tried fruit infused water. I have done lemon and I like it, but it’s kinda sour. Which fruits give a naturally sweet taste? @walkinghome @Niquii77‌

I have been trying to eliminate diet sodas and have been using La Croix sparkling waters. They come in a variety of flavors. Ingredients are carbonated water and natural flavors. 0 grams of fat, sodium, carbohydrate or sugar.

Fruit that is sweet will give a sweeter taste.

I feel for people who have to shake a soda addiction. I would not trust artificial sweeteners at all. Who wants all those chemicals in their body?

Most fruits are sweet instead of sour. I get trying to cut back on drinks that are bad for you and not drink a lot of heavy calorie sugar, why not just drink 100% juice diluted with water? What tastes good to one person will taste bad to the next. I prefer water to Crystal Light or any soda, so a little lemon sour water tastes good to me. I’m also a lazy drinker -it’s easy to squirt some lemon juice into water. I make sun tea with some mint from my garden and drink that. You could do that too.

@sally305 But citrus is generally more sour, no? I tried raspberries and apples, but that was a fail, so I decided to just stay with citrus fruit.

You may be eroding the enamel on your teeth by drinking citrus water all day, use a straw to bypass your teeth.

Annie, if you are trying to drink more because everyone is crazy about those 8 glasses of water a day - don’t. The 8 glasses a day thing is a total bunk! The color of your urine is the best test - if it is light yellow, you are hydrated enough. It does not have to be colorless. I cannot imagine drinking Crystal Light - a combination of stevia and food dyes is not a health food, IMO, especially for a pregnant woman. I do not see anything wrong with adding a little bit of juice to your water. You can try peaches or nectarines to your water since they add both slight sweetness and flavor.

How about VitaminWater (zero calorie)?

I like the concentrated liquid crystal light, and other brands. I just use a little bit, and a lot of ice. It lets you decrease the chemical exposure a little while still giving some flavor. Teas made from tea bags, with some mint, over ice, is nice too.

@electronblue Have you use the powder? What’s your experience with it?

And it seems like fruit infused water or diluted juice is my best bet. I would just need to find the right recipes for the water.

@beerme I didn’t even consider that, Thank you! :-)

There is no harm in drinking lots of water. Especially if you are active. I would imagine it’s good for pregnant women.

It also sounds like she it trying to find a healthier substitute for the high sugar content beverages that she is currently drinking not necessarily adding gallons of water per day.

Sally, it is possible to drink too much water to cause harm to his/her body.

Annie, here is a little quiz about hydration. I think it is pretty educational!

@Pizzagirl I have never tried it.
I assume it would be the same as drinking Crystal Light. It uses stevia as well
