I’m about to enter my senior year and I’m looking to go to a school to major in film. The college I’m applying to recommend submitting a portfolio, which is great because my grades are far from impressive. I’ve decided to write a few short scripts and include them in my portoflio. Do you guys think it would be acceptable to us profanity withing the scripts due to the fact that it’s under creative circumstances and not formal ones, or should I avoid it. I’d like to craft authentic characters, however I don’t want to find myself denied admissions just for a few swear words.
I don’t have first hand knowledge on this. However, I would think that if it is artistically motivated it should be fine.
Reasoning: In college you’re an adult, not a kid. I’ve been to many youth film festivals and sessions associated with general festivals. Motivated vulgarities are fine there. (I’m a parent of a student majoring in film in college.)
