Is Dartmouth a right place for me??

Im hoping to become a foreign exchange broker in the future
I heard that all foreign exchange dealers need a masters degree (MBA)
I know for fact that numerous Dartmouth undergraduates get accepted to many prestigious Business Schools across the country such as Wharton, Stern, Haas, Sloan, etc.

What I am curious about is what I should major in college as a preparation of attending a business school and becoming a foreign exchange broker in the future… Furthermore, is Dartmouth the right place for all this???

BTW, does anyone know some good companies that deal with foreign exchange aside from major banks, Goldman Sachs, KPMG, Merrill Lynch, and Morgan Stanley… and do u know which company may be ideal???

I don’t have in-depth knowledge in this area…but…maybe I can point you in the right direction.

If you’re looking at B-school…then majors in business-related fields…management or administration…accounting…marketing…econ… would all be good. But remember…they want businessmen who are well-rounded…the final answer…major in something that is related, but don’t be afraid to venture away from the bus. majors. If your a political buff…major in poly sci…it’ll be fine.

As far as where you go to college…I say disregard the academic concerns and focus on quality of life. If you go somewhere that you hate…it doesn’t matter what the brand-name is…you’ll do poorly. I imagine you will go SOMEWHERE that is strong academically…so look at yourself and find a good fit. Just asking which undergrad school will get you to which b-school is self-defeating. I’ll give you an example…you’ve posted this question on every single Ivy board. I personally don’t see how its possible for people who love Columbia (which is in the middle of Manhattan) to love Dartmouth at the same time (which is in the middle of nowhere). Completely differant schools. I know that doesn’t really answer your question…but that’s the whole point.

I know nothing about banks…maybe other people do.

BTW…I see that you are new…welcome to CC and the happiest forum in the world…the Dartmouth board! What g

welcome to the CC and the Dartmouth Board.

Remember that Tuck is no slouch when it comes to business schools.

One of the great thing about the D-plan is that you get the opportunities to do study abroad, internships beginning sophmore year (actually a full year earlier than at some schools) Do Dartmouth students get internship opportunities at Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan, yes. Do these companies recuit Dartmouth undergrads, yes. For the most part most MBA programs will want you to have a few years work experience under your belt before you begin your program.

Dartmouth will give you a well rounded education which you you will develop the critical thinking and analytical skills needed to prepare you for the business world (you don’t have to be a business major). Remember you will most likely start in an level your entry level job after graduation and there is going to be some type of trainee program so the bank is going to teach you what you need to know.

I think you should be focused on getting the education as the rest will fall into place. what kind place do you want to spend the next 4 years? KB has given you good advice. My daughter who has been around Columbia most of her life could not stand it as an option to attend college. Having lived in NYC, she looks at Hanover as a great escape from it all.

There is always more than one road which will lead you to the same place. I have a undergrad in marketing from Baruch College- Part of the City University of NY (a degree that I never used one day). It did not hinder me from being admitted to Cornell ILR, obtaining a masters, then getting a secon masters at NYU, and currently in a Doctoral Program. All while having over 20 years in corporate life and raising a kid who is currently at Dartmouth. If you ever visit the parents forum we have been down a number of paths, and it ain’t over yet.

good luck in your search

lol if it helps, my dad went to CUNY-Baruch, and he’s currently one of the three top business analysis consultants at Goldman Sachs. sometimes, regardless of where you for undergrad, the cream rises to the top. (this wasn’t supposed to sound arrogant, btw)

Blu,

See I knew we were connected somehow. Your dad and I are just CUNY kids (no shame as it did well by us), working to give our kids something better :).

yeah exactly! he actually went to CUNY-Queens at first, and then transferred. And he doesn’t mind at all, in this world of prestige-hounds - i only found out that he was accepted to Harvard like this year, b/c he’s never mentioned it (my mom said so when we visited). I know other peoples’ parents who, having gone to a less brand-name institution, add defensively “BUT I GOT INTO PRINCETON!!!”

Me too. Is his birthday in July?

Is is possible that the connection between sybbie and blu is deeper than we all thought???
