Is dartmouth really bad for engineering?

Hi

I am thinking of applying ED to dartmouth. But the rankings etc indicate that it isnt that good. What do you think?
I wanted to apply to Princeton ED but princeton is a HUGE reach for me. I am international asking for aid so I can’t apply to Penn ED because it is VERY need-aware. If not dartmouth, where should I apply?

If you want to combine Engineering with liberal arts, D’mouth is a great choice. P’ton is even better at that but is more selective.

Dartmouth takes common app so just apply there if u fill one out. What kind of engineering are you thinking of? As a Dartmouth alum, it hurts to say this but Dartmouth EE is very weak.

I’m more into chemical engineering. I am actually choosing a school to apply ED to. The thing is that i’m not 100% sure I want to pursue engineering (which actually sucks because Math & Science is not exactly a “passion” but i just like it a lot … but also like other subjects…something that goes against me in my applications.) And what would you suggest for ED - Swarthmore or Dartmouth. Thank you so much for ur support

If you are thinking about engineering, I’d definitely at least choose a school with an engineering department (IE not Swarthmore).

If Princeton is a huge reach, I’m going to guess Dartmouth is quite a reach as well…have you considered some schools like Johns Hopkins, Rice, Northwestern or Cornell? Might be a bit easier to get in, and all offer great engineering programs in addition to very prestigious arts/science programs. If you are really looking for the small, LAC feel then maybe Washington U in St Louis could be a good option…

I’m not trying to change your mind if you have already done the research and are set on either Swarthmore or Dartmouth (in that case, Dartmouth definitely if you are thinking about engineering)…just offering up a few alternatives since you sound worried about just getting in to one of those. The schools I mentioned might be more obtainable…

doesn’t Dartmouth grade deflate like crazy, could really screw you over for Graduate studies.

Dartmouth transcripts have median grades for classes on them so grad schools should know.
I don’t know a whole lot about chem E at Dartmouth… I think Dartmouth engineering grads either go to really good grad programs or work in banking/consulting. A few go work in engineering fields, more of dual degrees than those of Dartmouth proper.

thanks a lot everyone! i just found out that Johns Hopkins offers International ED students financial aid … which is why i might apply ED there … although im not sure it will help in terms of difficulty of getting in as JHU is also veryyy need aware for international students. anyway, Thanks a lot guys! :)
