Son will graduate with very solid scores and a fine GPA from a private school, but there is sometimes more to life. Davidson looks amazing, but I hear it is grind–even beyond its competitors.

I honestly have never heard Davidson referred to as a grind school. There are schools with that reputation (and some kids want that). I don’t think of Davidson as one of them.
We have visited Davidson a couple times, and we certainly never got that impression. D knows a couple people who went there, and they liked it. You should expect to work hard in college … some may consider that a grind, but I personally consider it getting my money’s worth!
No. People there are pretty happy, and the social scene is a major focus for a lot of people.
