Is Dominician University a good college???

Yesterday I just got a post card from Dominician University, it looks like a pretty good college, has a beautiful campus. What is the average GPA/ACT to get into that college??

Thanks!!;)

Are you referring to Ohio Dominican?

Yes, i think so…hmm not sure where it is exactly

There’s also a Dominican University in the San Francisco area, and one in Illinois.

There is also a Dominican University in Chicago. If that is the one you got the post card from, then the answer to your question about if this is a good school is no.

Um…The questions “is ____ a good college?” and “what is the average GPA at ____?” are patently different questions. The latter relates to selectivity. The former is all about subjective judgment. Is it a good college? No one will be able to tell you because it really depends on what you want from a college. If you want a prestigious school, or a school with a high GPA average, then Dominican’s probably not the place for you (the one in Chicago, that is). My advice was to get more information like visiting the website and going other places on the 'net. CC students are prestige driven.

Those of us who frequent CC are the most college-focused people in the U.S. The fact that none of us are sure what “Dominican University” is should raise a red flag.

From collegeboard’s SAT/ACT data.

Dominican of California/Ohio are just above CC level schools. Dominican of Illinois seems like a state school level university stat wise at least.

Although - Dominican University of California (which is in San Rafael) does have a very selective BFA dance program, in cooperation with Alonso King’s LINES Ballet, a professional company. As I understand it, it’s similar to the Fordham/Alvin Ailey program. It’s very highly regarded, and very difficult to get into. So everything depends on what you’re looking for.

oh! yes I got the postcard from dominican university located at Illnois

Dominican University in River Forest, IL has improved dramatically over the past several years, with brand-new facilities (science building and dorm), and a more diversified and competitive student body. It’s a pretty campus in a safe location with easy access to Chicago. Last year, it was included in Peterson’s “440 Colleges for Top Students.” I know it’s not at the academic level of most CC-ers, but it shouldn’t be dismissed out-of-hand. I live in the area and the college is very active in the community and very well-respected.

Mary13, thanks for that information. I had never heard of it but Chicago is a great place to be during college.

Dominican used to be Rosary College, an all-female school; it is still mostly women, and the school’s strengths tend to be in traditional female fields. A cousin of mine taught there for many years. It has a graduate school of Library Science which is the only one in the Chicago area. It is located in River Forest, which is a leafy suburb next to Oak Park on the city’s western edge.
I would guess that the average undergraduate has an ACT in the low to mid 20’s.

Point taken - I retract my blanket statement about Dominican (in Chicago) not being a good school

Ohh oops my bad!
I found out its not the Dominican University from Illnois its from California actually. xD
