Is Engineering the best major?

Before people say it, yes I know the best major for you is the one you like the best and all that. My question, however, is engineering a solid major no matter where you go? Obviously there’s better engineering schools, the top of the top, but what about other schools? For example, in Law, I know it’s said you have to go to a top 14 law school to really make it worthwhile. Is the same with Engineering? Or does it matter as much?

So then you are not asking about the question you used as the thread title then?

@boneh3ad‌, reading it back now I guess I wasn’t clear. I meant along the lines of return on investment, job opportunities, etc. Majoring in engineering your career prospects must be better than majoring in English at some small college, as compared to majoring in engineering at a smaller college.

If it is ABET accredited, then an engineering degree is solid and if pretty much doesn’t matter where you go. You are always better off making sure that you can afford the degree you are getting and not putting yourself into a huge debt.
