Is everyone here really this liberal?

Wow, so I have been reading through Parent’s Cafe for several weeks and all I am seeing is threads re: Obama…Clinton…potential running mates… is everyone on CC liberal?

granted I have seen some contrary posts on the above subjects, but no full fledged threads/discussions on the “other side”.

just wondering why.

Maybe they’re just resting up until the news refocuses on McCain v. Democratic Nominee (not quite yet named).

McCain himself gets to take weekends off these days.

Unless you think McCain is also a liberal?

Look over on the Service Academy forum. We rarely post over here.

(ducking and covering for the inevitable attacks on the military and those who choose to serve.)

Not everyone but certainly plenty. Keep reading, even on the threads you mentioned, and you’ll see plenty of retorts from people who clearly aren’t liberal and there are some, such as me, who get tired of the same old arguments being made by the same players on all the political threads so we just don’t bother to post so much or sometimes even bother reading them.

Besides, Obama vs. Hillary is where a lot of the political action is right now until a particular candidate is chosen then it’ll switch-up to the Dem vs. Republican threads.

[Some of us are arty, too](http://www.collegenews.org/topliberalartscolleges.xml</a>)
;)

Don’t worry, not all of us are liberal  - and as has been said above, you’ll find us conservatives responding to the liberal threads haha.

Icarus…a conservative from S. Cal??? YES!! I knew there were a few of us out here!

Unliberal here. I wouldn’t call myself conservative though.

Another Calif. non-liberal here. Fiscally conservative, socially progressive, libertarian-dominant.

RatedPG,

One of the things I enjoy about the Parent’s Cafe in CC IS the diversity. Are there MORE liberals who hang out on the Cafe’s political threads? Maybe, but only by a small percentage (or at least that’s the way it feels to me).

More importantly, I really found that here you get both sides of the story, and we take blow-hards and rude posters to task. You need better arguements and proof beyond the standard put-downs and rants about how bad the “other guys” (and gals  ) are and how good “my side” is. We reach an agreement, usually, that we can disagree (rather strongly sometimes), but we will at least be civil about it.

If I wanted to read only liberal blogs and points of view, I know where to hang out; same with the conservative side. And I could type away with vitroil and rudeness to my hearts content. But I’d rather see both sides of the arguement here (or the 3 sides of the current candidacy for president), and LEARN something along the way. We may be as passionate as all the rest out there on the web, but we’re also “neighborly”. Besides, this place is for “parents”; we’re supposed to set good examples for our children! :)

Wow,pretty defensive Momof1
Even us “blow hard” liberals manage to admire those who serve even if we may disagree with the mission.

I also thought that she was out of touch with those actually in or veterans of the military.
I have met soldiers currently serving and veterans who would not describe themselves as conservative.

WHy do conservatives think that they are the only ones who are patriotic or believe in volunteering for their country?

Ever wonder why college professors are so liberal?
I have found the answer, [can you resist being indocrinated?](http://www.commondreams.org/views04/1228-32.htm)
;)

cathymee,

I apologize if you thought i was directing the “blow hard” comment towards liberals. That was not my intent in the slightest. I was instead referring to those individuals on ALL sides of the political spectrum who choose to just ridicule and out-insult when they post, rather than conduct a mature dialouge on the issues, with logical and documented references.

I actually enjoy the debates here, and count several of the posters whom I may disagree with on some issues as people I admire and respect. I prefer to learn, ALWAYS, and hope we never get to a point where we are all cookie-cutter images of each other. Most importantly, I hope we can ALWAYS express our opinions, no matter how different they are, with respect and courtesy. THAT is why I love this place. (Oh, and I get a dialy dose of laughter from soooo many other posters and threads here as well!)

RatedPG, I am very conservative, and voted for Bush twice, and, given the exact same choices would do so again.

This time around though, things are a little different. I am looking very, very hard at Obama, although I will probably vote for McCain, especially if he picks an economic super-genius as his running mate. My daughter will almost certainly vote for Obama, should he secure the nomination. (I wouldn’t vote for Hillary under any circumstances - not even for mail carrier.) I try to stay out of the political threads though because in most cases it isn’t going to shift, let alone change, anyone’s point of view.

momof1 - in a conversation with someone, my brother was saying he was against the Iraq war because it endangered the soldiers in a mission they shouldn’t be fighting. The person he was speaking with immediately attacked him as being against the military, and not supporting the troops. We all thought that was pretty humorous, since my brother just retired as a sargeant major after 25 years of service.

Hmmmm. Defensive? I don’t think so. Perhaps. Out of touch? I don’t think so. I haven’t been in the military, but was a Navy spouse for 15 years before my husband retired. Now I teach on an Air Force base. Yes, our son is in the Navy (will be commissioned in a few days). Interestingly I didn’t say anything about the war. Haven’t here. Or the administration. Yet assumptions have been made about me. Hmmm.

“My heart would break to think about young people who are moving right from their parents house- to their own ( paid for by taxpayers as in teh case of the military couple)
Id be curious if they were married and he joined the service before they concieved or after.” Emeraldkity

Emeraldkity

Please rethink your comment about the military couple. It is insulting and, in fact, shows an ignorance and degradation of those who serve in the military. I commend the father for being responsible enough to find a job which provided medical coverage, a home, an education and for being willing to take responsibility for himself and his family. You seem to liken a military position to welfare or some sort of social program. It is a noble profession and your question about conception leaves me wondering if you believe that perhaps those who are in the military are “working the system.” You should be ashamed of yourself. This snide comment had nothing to do with the question at hand and was only a cheap shot against those who defend your right to trash them.

I did not mention her by name, but since she decided to call me out of touch, well, I thought that I would excerpt the conversation that evidently caused her to make this assumption.

I agree with late to school about the fruitlessness of political discussion in a forum such as this.

Oh well, I have a busy week next week to plan for!

Have a great Navy day!

There are lots of liberals here, some conservatives, and some who march to their own band. Like me. I have noticed that some of the nastiest and most abusive posters were liberal, but seem to be gone now, so it’s mostly in good fun.

*I also thought that she was out of touch with those actually in or veterans of the military.
I have met soldiers currently serving and veterans who would not describe themselves as conservative.

WHy do conservatives think that they are the only ones who are patriotic or believe in volunteering for their country?*

Where did I mention anything about the war?

I should have amended my statement to say you were out of touch with " some" soldiers, because obviously some would identify as conservative as well as liberal or elsewhere on the political spectrum.
I apologize for that.
However, I think we tend to pay attention to those who share our perspective and while you know conservative soldiers, I know those who are liberal/progressive .

The obvious answer is:

Only the smart ones!
