Owlice, I hope you’re not directing that epithet at Cheney. Remember, he shoots people he LIKES.

Hunt, that’s what the current governor of California (and other conservatives) called Kerry, who served in the Vietnam War, when Kerry was running for President.

According to the Wikipedia entry on “girlie men” (isn’t Wikipedia amazing?), Schwarzennegger used the term to describe Democratic candidates in general, and a Democratic “insider” used it specifically with regard to Kerry. I see little danger of either Obama or McCain being named girlie men in the upcoming election. For what it’s worth, Hillary Clinton isn’t very girlie, either.

~~ sigh ~~

Looks like you missed the point, Hunt.

I guess I did, unless you are just pointing out that conservatives insulted people, like Kerry, who did choose to serve. Of course, Kerry was also photographed windsurfing.

:: is biting her fingers bloody ::

:D

I guess I still don’t get it, unless I’M the girlie-man. But I assure you, heh heh…

just to clarify: In July of 04 Arnold called the Dems who opposed him re the budget in the CA legislature “girlie-men” and called for CA voters to boot em.

Hunt…relax owlice was cracking a joke in reference to the post that preceded hers.

BTW Your quip was funny too. re Cheney shooting his hunting buddy.

I don’t know…I have to find out if my manhood is being questioned. If so, I’ll have to go spend some time drumming in my sweat lodge until I feel better.

“Owlice, I hope you’re not directing that epithet at Cheney. Remember, he shoots people he LIKES.”

Are you disputing that that takes real courage?
(Snickering)

Hunt,

It wasn’t until that!!

PLEASE TELL ME, AM I A LIBERAL?

I believe life begins at conception.

I am fine with the death penalty.

I am generally hostile towards labor unions.

I believe in capitalism and generally detest government interference with free markets.

I support free trade.

I want to stay in Iraq and finish the job.

I believe the Constitution protects the right to bear arms.

I am a deficit hawk and hate government waste.

BUT:

I am pro-choice.

I was strongly against the start of the Iraq war.

I am in favor of government regulation of gun ownership.

I am in favor of raising income taxes to close the budget deficit.

I am in favor of raising gas taxes for environmental protection.

I support equality for all men and women, including gays.

I want to stop our government from torturing suspects.

^ well that’s just me to a tee - I used to be totally liberal but have changed on some stuff and figured I was conservative, which is just a real drag because everyone spits on us these days. What do you call yourself, vicarious?

mammall–I see it from a different perspective. As a liberal, I feel spat upon all the time. Turn on talk radio, and there’s Hannity or Limbaugh treating me like I’m an America-hating, atheistic blow-hard. Look at how even the term “liberal” has taken on such a negative connotation in recent years, much as the term “feminist” has. As opposed to “conservative,” which is perfectly respectable and apparently means God-loving patriot. I’m not saying anyone on this particular thread feels that way, but that’s pretty much how the public perception has gone. So, I feel your pain!

As long as you can say this:

You’re a conservative.

PLEASE TELL ME, AM I A LIBERAL?

I’m pretty sure I’m a liberal, but I like calling myself a progressive. :)

I believe life begins at conception.

I think we should declare wars the way it’s described in the constitution and we should have a draft when we have a war.

I believe in capitalism and generally think government interference with free markets backfires.

I support free trade.

I believe the Constitution protects the right to bear arms.

I am a deficit hawk and hate government waste.

BUT:

I am pro-choice.

I don’t believe in the death penalty, but I was happy Jeff Dahlmer was killed in prison.

I am pro labor unions in theory, but in practice feel they end up doing more harm than good half the time.

I was strongly against the start of the Iraq war. I don’t think it matters when we get out of Iraq it will be a mess no matter what.

I am in favor of government regulation of gun ownership.

I am in favor of raising income taxes to close the budget deficit.

I am in favor of raising gas taxes for environmental protection.

I support equality for all men and women, including gays.

I want to stop our government from torturing suspects.

mammall, I think I am a conservative but by the talk-radio definition I would probably be considered a liberal, mostly because I am pro-choice, pro-taxes, pro-gay rights and anti-torture, and because I don’t hate all muslims and liberals.

I have some questions:

What’s wrong with being an atheist?

People who say “life begins at conception,” what do you mean by “conception”? Is that when the sperm encounters the egg? Or is that when implantation in the uterus takes place? Or at some other point in the process known as “conception”?

Nothing is wrong with being an atheist. It’s just that some of the right-wing religious faction use the term to drag those who disagree with them through the mud. …

I agree with you mammall on most points except for Iraq. I believe we should never have gone in and we need to get out–ASAP. Of course, we owe the people of Iraq a great deal of humanitarian aid for the chaos we’ve thrown their country into, but our military presence there is just not cutting it. …
