At my school’s business school, I would say that about 45% of the students major in finance. Some do just finance; others dual-concentrate with finance and something else. I have also looked over my school’s old enrollment records, and it appears that the number of finance majors has increased by over two-fold since 1990.

No doubt, this is because everyone wants to work on Wall Street and earn those multi-million dollar bonuses.

But, with the glut of finance majors everywhere (I surmise that this isn’t only happening at my school), is finance becoming less marketable to potential employers? I am a finance major myself, and while I don’t take any courses in finance until my junior year, I am wondering if it is so wise to major in finance, given the tens of thousands of people who graduate with B.S. degrees in finance every year.

Thoughts?
