Is Financial Aid a Valid Reason?

Let’s say that a potential transfer school has a way better financial aid program than my current one (Which is mostly loans, and I’ll graduate with about 30K debt)… Would this be a valid reason for a transfer application?

Not as a major premise in your essay; not by a long shot. It is a valid reason for dissatisfaction where you are, but says little about why school fits you emotionally/intellectually, as you could go to an in-state university or community college and pay almost nothing for tuition. Include it parenthetically.

As well, are you sure the new school has better financial aid for transfers?

Many schools are far less generous with transfer admits than they are with freshman admits.

I wouldn’t talk about it, especially if you’re only talking about 30k in debt. Plenty of students are taking their entire tuition in loans (my BF, for example, will graduate with 150K+ in loans).

Not to mention that most schools have very little money to give to transfer students. Unless you’re transferring from an expensive private school to something in-state, I’d avoid going into too much detail about financial aid.

Oh, and as a side note, many schools are NOT need-blind for transfers. Emphasizing that you need money might hurt your case, however unfair.
