Is Going to a "Good" High School Important?

Question: How important is going to a “good” high school in college admissions?

WHAT DID “THE DEAN” SAY?

See: http://www.collegeconfidential.com/dean/going-good-high-school-important/

Is The Dean running for re-election, because there was certainly something for everyone in that response.

LOL!! The Dean is leaning more toward Assisted Living Facilities than re-election at this point. ;-). And I could afford to retire in style if I had a dollar for every time I’ve been asked about the value of a “good” high school. And “good” usually refers to schools where the students, teachers, and facilities are strong and the stress level is often high. So I inevitably respond that there are pros and cons to attending such schools … and indeed there are.

As the parent of kids who have gone/go to such a school I agree with you completely. And we could afford to retire in better style if we hadn’t spent 400K on that school.

It would seem the benefits of going to a “good” high school would outweigh the disadvantages.
A student at a good high school would be exposed to an academically stronger peer group
and “good” high schools have more resources (lower faculty-student ratio and often
better facilities). Even if it is slightly more difficult to get admitted to an elite college
they are far better prepared academically for college work at a “very good” college.
