I mean after graduating from college and becoming a graphic designer. Is it hard to get hired as a graphic designer? Will I have to be really good in graphic design to become one?

honestly, I think it really depends on what you’re looking at doing after school. Obviously the higher paying or more “glamorous” jobs will be much more competitive. However, the Graphic Design Industry is currently growing pretty fast and I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to find some sort of job after college. It just might not be your dream job.

This paper is an excellent resource for the student considering graphic design as a profession. It’s very well written and discusses the field and the education options:

Short answer:
Yes. It is very competitive.
It is a very popular career in the art world since there are many jobs available.
It’s no coincidence that Graphic Design tends to be one of the most popular majors at art schools.

But then again, what ISN’T competitive in the world of art careers?
