<p>I am interested in MSTP programs, but with all the research and volunteer work I have to do (and plus paid work), I don’t think I can fit in any leadership activity. How important are leadership activities and non-clinical volunteer work to MSTP programs?</p>
<p>Depends on the program but think about this: the end goal for the vast majority of MSTP grads end up as PIs in academic medical centers. That means that they will be running a lab and coordinating the efforts of their staff…aka serving in leadership roles</p>
<p>These questions you ask would be much easier to answer for yourself if your motivation to be an MD/PhD went beyond a free MD</p>
