Is HS GPA used for anything at all once student is in college?

Okay, so HS GPA is primarily used as a measuring tool for the purpose of college admission … and for various scholarships. Maybe it is used for something else too that I don’t know about.

But once the student is in college, does HS GPA has any bearing whatsoever on anything academically?

Sometimes, if a kid is tanking, we go back to the hs transcript to look for clues.

One possible use is if a given student wants to transfer colleges. However, the importance of HS GPA fades after 1 or more years of college and the college record takes on much more importance.

If the student takes any college courses in high school, these courses will be included in his/her application to medical or law school.

Sororities with Fall rush may have minimum high school GPA requirements for Freshmen.

hmm … interesting responses.

ordinary … what is ‘tanking’?

Tanking = heading towards academic failure.

Generally not, unless the student applies to transfer to another college, especially below junior class standing. As noted in #4, if any courses taken in high school were actual college courses (not AP/IB/etc.), those can count when college courses and grades are considered for professional school.
