<p>I took the SAT in March and am very happy with my score of 2300. In the weird world of SAT curves my 800 in CR, 740 in M, and 760 in WR (with a 10 essay) each amounted to only 2 questions wrong! If I sit for it again, I’m not sure I can top that but I’m pretty sure I can do worse. Is a one-and-done 2300 OK? Are colleges looking for applicants to try, try, try again? To take the ACT, even if, like me, the science section is scary and the test overall not as good a fit for as the SAT? Can I just send the message “I worked hard to prepare, I’m proud of this score, here I am?”</p>
<p>IMO, depends on which colleges you’re applying to. S1 got a 2350 on his first try, 1600 (CR/M). Didn’t want to take a chance to improve his score. He is salutatorian, many ECs, with leadership roles in some, varsity sport (not recruit-worthy), talented musician (horn and piano), but no other noteworthy accomplishments. Got accepted to marvelous schools, but was still rejected by HYP.</p>
<p>Your SAT scores are very competitive, but the top colleges are looking for other attributes as well, not just SAT scores. Your personal statement will also weigh quite heavily. If you work on that, expand on the ECs and make yourself stand out amongst all the applicants, then you will have a great chance at the top schools, IMHO.</p>

<p>Absolutely! In fact, back in the dark ages that’s how we did it. Take the test once and move on. There is something pathetic and tool-like about kids taking and re-taking all these tests.</p>
<p>Your SAT is plenty good enough for any college. If you encounter any rejections, it will not be because of the SAT score.</p>
<p>Thank you all so much for your responses! I sometimes wish I could do this college search thing in a vacuum or something. So much chatter going on in school about taking the SAT and the ACT multiple times, about taking 3 and 4 and 5 SAT IIs. It makes you start to wonder. And I totally get that the SAT is only one part of the package, believe me. I’ve got a good list going of what I think are reaches (or “lottery schools” :-)), matches and safeties so hopefully one of them will want me!</p>
<p>I got a 2060, only took it once, and got into Harvard (I’m from south Louisiana and the SAT isn’t stressed at all, I didn’t even realize how important it was. I did make a 34 on the ACT though) . The test scores are there to make sure you are qualified, but they aren’t what get you in.</p>
