I am currently a junior, have taken honors eng last year as a sophomore and pulled a B for both semesters, but I could have received an A if I tried a little harder. I have a lot of trouble analyzing and scrutnizing essays and pieces of literature, it is really not my forte. I am wondering if it will hurt me badly if I don’t take AP Eng 11? I am currently taking Apush and honors chem. I will be hoping to attend Uc Santa cruz

I don’t think it would really hurt you that much in terms of admission to UCSC if you maintain the GPA. You don’t have to take all the APs if you don’t think you’ll do well in them. Don’t worry too much.

I think the answer depends on what would you take if you do not take AP Eng. My D did not take AP Eng Lit in senior after AP Eng but a humanities class (double hour for social science and English curriculum) in college style teaching format. She loves that class and it really opened her eyes in art and culture. For admission purpose, it would be fine if do not take AP Eng but still have an English class and your overall curriculum is rigorous enough for your target schools. However, I would think taking AP Eng Comp may benefit you more disregarding admission. Don’t forget you will need to write essays for college applications too.
