I apologize that I couldnt write a letter to you during the last two years since I left for America. I have tried, but since I forgot how to write my mother tongue Chinese letters, I felt ashamed not writing to you in Chinese.
Since I left home, I have realized your importance to my life. You have realized every wish I have asked of you at all costs. When I make a mistake, you simply tell me, Thats OK, just learn from the lesson. When I am sad, you are always with me listening to my tale of grief. You are the best mother I would ever have.
I have learned that life does not always go as I wish. I have learned that I have to stand up for myself even if nobody protects me. But I always thought about you when life became bitter, and I wished I could still jump to your breast and weep over my grief.
Now I am going to college. I am going to realize the first, yet the most important, dream in my life. A place such as Princeton will bring me the best education and enable me to reach my highest potential. But most importantly, I am going to be a child you will be proud of!
Since last summer, I have secretly relearned how to write Chinese letters in a sincere hope that, one day, I would be able to write a letter to you in my mother tongue. It may not be in the best shape, but it is composed of letters that are full of my passion.
