Hello everyone. Since my parents don’t know much about the way boarding school admissions works, a family friend is helping me figure out my application. However, serious issues have gotten in the way of either of us working on applications, and I haven’t been able to submit my part one yet. I’m not sure I’ll be able to get any interviews now. Is this bad for my application? Would schools be fine with a personal video?
Well interviews are definitely really important in the application but its not going to be detrimental to your overall. I didn’t interview for one of the 10 schools, but I still got W/L when I applied. Didn’t get in but W/L so thats something, but I think getting a interview is def important so try to get them ASAP. I applied last year on December 29th but I still got interviews online.
Good luck!
One thing I forgot to mention in this post is that submit the part 1 of the Gateway application ASAP since a lot of schools are going on school break and some schools are already on school break so the admission office is currently not working. Finish it fast and get the student portal fast so you can schedule the interview.
Hi,
My advice is to complete the part 1 soon so that you can proceed to the interview slots. My son is at a boarding school overseas, so he could only do the interview during his half term break, and we only had a couple days trying to finish it before he had to fly back.
One of the schools that he applies to , we had to put in the request first and explained why we couldn’t make it for the onsite visit. After the request had been approved, then we were able to ask for the available online interview slots.
But in the case that you can’t get any slot that works for you, don’t beat yourself up. I wouldn’t worry to much. It’s good to have it but it’s not the end of everything if you don’t.
Most schools will fit you in for an interview, possibly by zoom. It’s an important part of the process.
My daughters interviewed before applying. Has that changed? (They did fill out some really basic online info like name, address and areas of interest, but that took like two minutes.) are you sure you need to do a meaty submission of some sort to request an interview? That doesn’t sound right to me after three kids going through the process in three separate years. (But of course things can change.)
It was easy for me as well! All I did was email the admissions email asking about online interview slots and most were happy to to help.
One of my daughter’s schools (Pomfret) required the entire application to be complete before they would schedule an interview if you couldn’t interview in person.
I think a couple of schools are like that — pomfret and Westover also required application before interview. But the 23 other schools on our lists all allowed interviews before applications.
