Okay, so I’m having a hard time dealing with a decision my by former math teacher. You see, I took Algebra II/Trig H last year because that was the highest math class a sophomore in my school was allowed to take (with some freshman who had moved from different states). After that, the majority of us went to Pre-Calculus and we haven’t really learned anything new. Everything we are doing has been review which would be fine if I didn’t already know this stuff or if I hadn’t practiced it over the summer (yes, I’m that big of a geek). So anyhow, my Trig teacher from last year is the trig teacher this year too, but she decided that this year she would rename the class Algebra II/ Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus. The school’s administrators just decided that all of the juniors, sophomores, and some freshmen who are in this class will be in Calculus AB with us next year. Now, I don’t have a problem with being in a class with sophomores or juniors, but I am very angry with this decision. I don’t think it’s fair to all of us who had to suffer through last year (with the exact same curriculum) and this year when we could have just skipped the majority of it. I also think it’s unfair that all of us to be in one class of about 30 Calculus students. I can’t comprehend how we can all be individually helped if we have so many kids (this year’s Calculus class has 8 students). This is only the second year our school has been open, and they are trying to make themselves look really good, but it’s bugging me. I’m not the only one bothered; many of the sophomore and juniors in my class now are upset because they feel that taking Algebra I in 7th and 8th grade was a waste of time. There are juniors in the new Algebra II/Trigonometry Pre-Calculus class that didn’t start Algebra I until freshman year because they thought it was too hard, and now we?ll are be crammed in one class.

I’m actually at the point where I’m thinking about talking to my former math teacher, the administrators, or something. I know I?m being a bit overdramatic, but I just feel like all of the extra time I spent on math was for nothing. This isn?t the only thing that the administrators have done to the class of ?08 at our school. They made us re-take health and required us to take studies skills over again because they didn?t know what to do with us, yet freshmen didn?t have to take it at all.
