I pretty confident in where I’m going to end up but people are telling me to apply to more. However, I haven’t done research for many schools.
If it’s affordable, you’re certain to be admitted, and you like it, then where’s the problem?
What happens if you don’t get in? What’s Plan B?
You should pretty much ALWAYS have a Plan B when someone else is the one making the decisions, as is the case with college admissions.
Plan B doesn’t necessarily mean applying immediately to more schools. It might mean being comfortable with a community college. It could mean you applied early and you will know in time to put out more applications if the worst were to happen. If it’s a true safety then you will be ok. If it’s a strong match you might want to prepare for contingencies.
Right. It could be CC. Or a gap year. Or an online school. Or something else.
But if someone else is in the driver’s seat, you need a Plan B.
A lot of students like to have a choice in the spring. And you could change your mind about what you want, or realize the school isn’t quite what you thought it was. Things to think about:
- Does it offer the majors you think you are interested in? Have you reviewed the course offerings and graduation requirements in your probable major? What if you change your mind about your major?
- Is it affordable? Have you run the net price calculator on the school website?
- Are you comfortable with the campus? Is it a heavy commuter school, and are you okay with that if you plan to live on campus?
- Are there any ECs you want to continue, and can you do that?
- Are your parents okay with this choice?
My D18 had only 2, because we made her apply to an extra. Both were rolling admission, so she knew in September she was in. She put her deposit in a couple of days after she was accepted. She loves her school. So it’s not always a requirement to apply to a bunch of schools.
Thats the beauty of rolling admissions. Many use that for their safety school. If its the desired school and is affordable, then no need to apply to more. If not, then there is still plenty of time. As for the OP, we have no idea f the school or his/her stats, so can’t say, other than the rest of the schools now, if added, will be RD schools. Maybe there are still some rolling admissions available too.
It depends on what the one school is that you applied to. If it was Harvard there is a 95% chance that you will be disappointed. If it was Oklahoma Panhandle State University you will likely be okay.
