Is it bad to be humorous in an essay for a medical program?

I’m a high school senior applying for a direct medicine program. The essay asks me to answer why I want to become a doctor. Do you think it would be out-of-place to include humor in this kind of an essay topic? I’m not going to try to be snotty or sarcastic, but I just want to take a different approach to the essay.

If you think it will be genuinely funny then go for it. You’re not gonna write a great essay if you don’t take risks.

^ Thanks xeno, you’re right!

Play to your strengths. If you’re a funny person, write a funny essay. If you aren’t funny, then write a serious one.
