Is it beneficial to assign more than the required number of recommenders?

If a college allows you to assign more than the required two recommenders, should I take the offer and ask more teachers for recommendations? Or will it be pointless if the additional recommender does not bring in other information that is already mentioned by the first two recommenders?

Just remember not all the schools ask for the same number of recommenders. So if one school only wants 1 they will take the first one submitted which might not be the best one

If a school allows additional recommenders to be assigned, take advantage of that only if you have someone in mind who can present information or qualities about you that truly add to the application. If, for example, the additional recommender you are considering is just another teacher who thinks highly of you but hasn’t seen you in a different context or doesn’t know you out of class, don’t bother.

You may go up to the maximum allowed recommedation but you better have recommenders that may cover different aspects of you. If it is another teacher, it should be at least a different core subject area or one supervising your EC.

Okay, thank you all for the advice!
